An ambitious plan to install smart meters in every home and business in India is said to be under consideration as part of the Ministry of Power’s ongoing efforts to modernize the country’s power system. The plan is said to involve the installation of 300 million smart meters over a three-year period.

14 Pilot Projects Aims to “Smarten-up” Grid
As part of wider efforts to build “intelligence” into India’s grid system, the Ministry of Power has allocated 14 Smart Grid pilot projects that will be implemented by India’s state-owned discoms (distribution utilities) from Himachal Pradesh in the north to Puducherry in the south.
